Why do some fragrances seem to last much longer than others?

People with dry skin usually experience shorter fragrance retention times than those with oily skin because oily skin has more natural moisture to retain the fragrance. In addition, the PH level (amount of acidity) in the skin has a marked effect on the reaction of each ingredient in a fragrance and these PH levels vary slightly from person to person.

Why does a fragrance last longer on darker skins?

Blondes or people with light skin have a tendency towards dry skin and therefore have shorter fragrance retention times.

Why does fragrance contain alcohol?

Alcohol makes the fragrance to emit from your skin. Without alcohol, no one would know that you are wearing any fragrance at all.

How can I make my scent last longer?

  • If you have dry skin, apply perfume more often.
  • Applying petroleum jelly to areas where you will be applying perfume will cause the scent to attach to the skin. Also, use a matching body lotion or unscented body lotion to apply to pulse points before applying your fragrance.
  • Apply the fragrance on the lower part of your body so that the scent will rise and become effective for a longer period.
  • Applying perfume immediately after a shower will cause the scent to soak into your warm skin and open pores. Be careful, however, not to use deodorant soap.
  • If your scent has faded after a few hours, rub the affected area to reactivate the scent.

Where are the pulse points?

Pulse points are the wrist, behind the ear, the crook of the arm and knee, and the base of the throat.

What do fragrance notes refer to?

Fragrances comprise many different scents. These scents are called "notes." Top notes are very light and last just a few minutes (5-10 minutes). Middle notes become apparent in about 15 minutes after application and may last for up to an hour or more. Bottom notes refer to the heavier ingredients. These last the longest, usually for several hours.

Why do fragrances smell differently on different people?

Body chemistry, diet and age all have an affect on fragrances on the skin. Also, any fragrance consists of a number of essential oils. Some of these of essential oils have an affinity to the skin and may be absorbed while others do not. This creates an imbalance on the skin and accounts for the difference.

How should I or where should I apply fragrance?

Fragrance should be applied to pulse points. This is where the blood vessels are closest to the skin hence they release more heat and act like mini fragrance pumps. Also, for long lasting fragrance, spray at the ankles because it allows the fragrance to blossom upwards.

How long will a fragrance last on me?

Fragrances are designed to last about 4 hours. Some people may find that a particular fragrance lasts all day but by then it will not smell as it is supposed to. You should re-apply once or twice a day.

How long can I keep my fragrance stored?

Fragrances don't last forever. There are certain precautions though that will ensure the quality of the fragrance. Keep the bottle in a dry and dark place. Excessive heat or cold can also destroy a fragrance, thus do not let it be exposed to extreme temperatures. Fragrances usually last 3-5 years from the date of manufacturing.

Where should I keep my fragrances?

Keep all fragrances in a cool, dry area and away from windows, as direct sunlight can distort the balance of the various ingredients. An opened bottle should be kept in its box to ensure a longer shelf life.

What is the difference between Ladies' and Men’s perfume

The process of making both ladies' and men’s perfume is exactly the same. Typically ladies' perfumes have more floral notes and men’s perfumes are inclined to contain more wood and citrus notes.
